I had to reinstall windows xp, not from the original CD (Id lost it). The wireless cards in the laptop is not being shown in the System/hardware list. Why is the card not being registered by the windows?

You can attempt to request the media from Dell but likely be charged for it. Thus you would be better to purchase Windows 8, it is cheap at a promotional price at the moment as it is just released. For either version of Windows refer to my wiki A Clean Install of Windows for full instructions.
